About the Collection
The Black River Archive is a collection of photographs and documentary records produced by a Philadelphia-based survey bureau between the 1870s and the late 1950s. The materials document infrastructure and labor across the industrial interior of the United States.
The collection was received as part of a larger transfer of labor and industrial records. Digitization and publication are undertaken by Ferrotype Co. The materials presented here represent a portion of the full collection.
Prints of selected plates are available to support the continued work of digitization and preservation. A catalog is in preparation.
